The Princess Mary’s Royal Air Force Nursing Service
Association was formed in 1992 to offer a way for communication and
fellowship amongst serving and retired members of the PMRAFNS. Since its
establishment, the Association has endeavoured to increase awareness in
areas of interest relevant to the PMRAFNS and the wider Service. Moreover,
it offers the opportunity to bring together friends and colleagues.
Membership of the PMRAFNS Association entitles members to receive a free
copy of the magazine, an annual newsletter and notification of the date
for the PMRAFNS Association AGM and Reunion. All serving and retired
members are encouraged to contribute to the magazine thus allowing for a
variety of articles and news items to be published. An updated membership
list is published periodically detailing members’ name, address and
Service details (listed only with the consent of the individual). The AGM
meeting and Reunion are usually held at either RAF Halton or the RAF Club
in London. All PMRAFNS Association members are invited to attend. The
Reunion provides the ideal occasion to meet with friends and to make new
acquaintances. Additionally, the PMRAFNS Association facilitates a
nationwide link scheme system. The aim of the link scheme is to provide
for retired PMs that live within a close geographical area of a link
scheme member the opportunity to meet and foster supportive and friendly
relationships. To assist the smooth running of the Association, there is a
committee in which nine serving and retired members of PMRAFNS meet on a
quarterly basis. At the AGM in June 2001, the decision was made to invite
all serving and retired non-commissioned ranks to join the Association in
an endeavour to promote the ethos of the Branch moving through times of
great change. The Committee as it stands now has serving and retired
officers and non-commissioned personnel, thereby reflecting the wider
membership of the PMRAFNS Association. Annual
subscription costs £15-00 and can be paid annually by standing order or
cheque. Full membership is open to all serving and ex-serving members of
the Princess Mary’s Royal Air Force Nursing Service. Affiliated membership
is offered to other persons determined by the Committee as having
contributed to the work of/or in support of the PMRAFNS.
Linked with the Association (though not part of it) is
the PMRAFNS Trust. The Trust is run by six trustees, and in certain
circumstances can offer limited financial assistance to retired members
who are experiencing short-term financial hardship.
