The World Triathlon Championships held in Honolulu, Hawaii has certainly been the highlight of my triathlon career to date.  Selection into the GB team was governed by race performance at one of 3 races nominated by the British Triathlon Association.  The RAF Championships was held at one of these nominated races in June 2005.  As well as being crowned the RAF female Champion at this race I also secured my place in the Great British team for the World Triathlon Championships.  The teams are divided into age group categories and I was selected to represent the 25-29 female team.  The race was held on Sunday 9 Oct 05 and in order to acclimatise I flew to Hawaii a week before race day.  The race included a 1500m sea swim, 40km fast and flat bike course and a 10km run that was made up of two 5km loops.  The swim and transition area were on Waikiki Beach, the bike course left the transition area and followed the beautiful coastline.  The atmosphere on race day was incredible and the hosting country really went to town on the whole event.

I was placed 58th out of 104 competitors in my age group category and was delighted with this result.  I’ll be taking a break from the racing circuit in 2006, as I’ll be out of area from May – September.  I look forward to 2007 and plan to increase the race distance moving up to Ironman events.
