Christmas Message

To All PMRAFNS Personnel and MOD Civilian Nurses

Group Captain J L Gross RRC QHN PMRAFNS

Director Nursing Services (RAF) and Matron-in-Chief PMRAFNS

It is that time of year again for me to acknowledge the immense contribution that you have all made during what has been another very busy year.

The respite afforded by the withdrawal of nurses from posts on Op TELIC has been counteracted by the increase in numbers now augmenting the AE and CCAST rotas and I fully appreciate how disruptive this can be.  Your support to operations whilst carrying on with ‘the day job’ has not gone unnoticed and your contribution, Service or civilian, is as valuable as that of the deployed element.

It has been a great pleasure to be able to meet so many of you during the past year, either on visits, at PMRAFNS reunions and sporting events or at the recent DNS(RAF) Conference held at RAF Coningsby.  This, I thought, was a particularly good event, professionally and socially!  The quality of the presentations was excellent and I was pleased that so many of you were able to attend.

I am sure that word has now spread that I am about to leave my appointment as DNS(RAF) and Matron in Chief of the PMRAFNS.  I have had a challenging but thoroughly enjoyable tenure and have felt proud and very privileged to head up such a professional organisation.  My replacement will be Wing Commander Phil Cushen who will be promoted to Group Captain in the New Year to officially take over as DNS(RAF) on 11 January 2010.  I myself am joining the staff of the Surgeon General’s Department.

It just remains for me to send Seasons Greetings to you and your families and wish you peace and happiness in the New Year, wherever you may be.

The Princess Mary's Royal Air Force Nursing Service is committed to providing a nursing workforce that is determined to develop the skills, knowledge and ability to deliver high quality care whilst being responsive to the dynamic nature of RAF Nursing in peacetime and on operations
